July is Disability Pride Month, an annual observance that celebrates the achievements, identity, and contributions of disabled people. It is also a time to recognise disability as a natural and valuable part of human diversity, while promoting inclusion, accessibility, and equality in all areas of life.
Disability Pride Month encourages greater awareness of both visible and hidden disabilities, including physical disabilities, neurodiversity, long-term health conditions, sensory impairments and mental health conditions. It provides an opportunity to reflect on how inclusive our environments are and to consider how communication, teaching approaches, and support strategies can be adapted to meet individual needs.
At Shaping Lives, this month is a reminder of our ongoing commitment to inclusive practice. By continuing to develop understanding, making appropriate adjustments, and promoting accessibility, we aim to ensure every learner feels supported, valued, and able to succeed in their apprenticeship journey.
Disability Pride Month is not only a celebration, but also a call to action to continue building environments where everyone can thrive.
