At Shaping Lives, every week is child safety week – but this one is extra special.

From 2nd to 9th June, we’re proud to stand with Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) in supporting Child Safety Week 2025. This year’s theme, “Safety is for sharing”, highlights the power of spreading trustworthy advice in a world full of mixed messages.

Whether you’re an apprentice just beginning your journey in early years, a nursery employee expanding your skills, or a manager leading a dedicated team, you play a vital role in keeping children safe.

Why it matters

Accidents are one of the leading causes of death among children in the UK, but most are preventable. Every practitioner working with children aged 0–5 holds a huge responsibility. The early years are not only crucial for development, they’re also when little ones are most vulnerable.

That’s where we come in.

At Shaping Lives, we’re more than just a training provider. We help shape confident, capable educators who know how to create safe, nurturing environments where children can explore, grow, and thrive. Safety is a skill – And we teach it

From day one, our apprentices are trained in real-world safeguarding and accident prevention. Our learning journeys are designed to build:

Confidence – So learners don’t just know how to spot hazards, they act on them.
Expertise – Our programmes are developed by industry leaders and delivered by specialists who know early childhood inside and out.
Practical Know-how – Because it’s not about theory, it’s about being prepared, proactive, and calm under pressure.

We also encourage reflective thinking. Why? Because the safest practitioners are those who ask, “What could go wrong and how do I stop it from happening?”

Safety tips to share

As part of Child Safety Week, we’re helping to share CAPT’s top tips with our community. Here are three simple reminders to keep in mind in any nursery or early years setting:

Be hazard aware – Keep an eye out for everyday dangers like loose rugs, hot drinks, or cleaning products stored within reach.

Supervision saves lives – Accidents can happen in seconds. Always stay close, especially during high-risk moments like mealtimes, bath times, or outdoor play.

Keep learning – Safety standards evolve. Stay updated, stay curious, and never stop developing your knowledge.

You can access free resources, factsheets, and activities on the Child Safety Week website to use in your setting or share with families.

Shaping tomorrow’s safest educators – Today

We believe child safety isn’t a box to tick. It’s a mindset. It’s a skillset. And it’s something we’re passionate about building in every single learner we train.

Because when you’re shaping young lives, safety is never optional – it’s essential.
