At Shaping Lives, we’re here to do just that, shape lives. And for us, that means working hard to open doors, remove barriers, and help more young people discover what they’re capable of. That’s why we’re proud to share that we’ve joined the Moving On Up network — a growing group of organisations committed to improving apprenticeship access and experiences for care experienced young people.

What is Moving On Up?

Moving On Up is all about inclusion with impact. It brings together people and partners who are passionate about creating better opportunities for care experienced learners — from training providers and employers, to government voices and young people themselves.

Together, the network works to:

  • Tackle the barriers within the apprenticeship system that stop care experienced individuals from getting started
  • Increase ring-fenced apprenticeship roles that give care leavers more chances to step into meaningful work
  • Support providers and employers to become trauma-informed and flexible in how they deliver programmes
  • Champion the voices of care experienced apprentices and share their stories to inspire others

It’s not just talk — it’s a space for action. With free resources, four expert-led online sessions a year, and a focus on real-life journeys, this network is here to make a real difference.

Why we’ve joined

At Shaping Lives, we’re already working to build programmes that support every learner to thrive, whatever their background. But we know that care experienced young people often face unique challenges. And we believe we can do more.

Joining the Moving On Up network means we can:

  • Learn from others and share what’s working in our own settings
  • Strengthen the support we give to care experienced apprentices and the employers who work with them
  • Shape our programmes with even greater care, flexibility, and understanding
What happens next?

The next step is about partnership. We’ll be encouraging our own employers and partners to look at how they can offer more opportunities, introduce greater flexibility, and embed support for care experienced apprentices into every stage of the journey.

And we’ll keep learning, through the Moving On Up events, stories, and resources, so we can keep getting better at what we do. That’s why we’ve joined the Moving On Up network
